After twenty years in the corporate world, and inspired by her experience as a hospice volunteer, Mary Treacy O’Keefe received a master’s degree in Theology in 2002 and was certified as a spiritual director. As a result of having breast cancer in 1999, Mary became aware of the benefits of using integrative healing modalities to complement conventional medical treatments. She obtained training in several holistic therapies, including healing touch. She also was trained as a Cancer Guide and Mind, Body Skills facilitator by the Center for Mind Body Medicine in Washington, D.C. In 2004, Mary co-founded and currently is President of Well Within, a nonprofit holistic wellness resource center in St. Paul, Minnesota. Well Within provides low cost/free integrative healing programs to people seeking overall wellbeing and healing of mind, body and spirit, especially women with serious health issues. In addition to giving presentations and retreats to a variety of audiences, Mary facilitates an ongoing Integrative Healing Support Group for Women with Cancer at Well Within.
As an author, Mary’s first book, Thin Places: Where Faith is Affirmed and Hope Dwells, received Honorable Mention from the national Independent Publishers Book Awards. She is currently completing her second book, Meant to Be: Do Things Really Happen for a Reason?
